The 3 Most Common Causes of Poor Health and How to Fix Them

Stress is fairly well known as an idea and word in the dictionary, but most people are not aware of their own stress. When you are in denial of your stress, you are silently destroying your immune and nervous system. When it comes to your health, stress is important because it lowers the quality of your life and can increase your risk of developing preventable diseases.

 

There are three simple strategies for reducing stress:

 

First, you must live in the present. Thinking about the past or future really makes no sense. You can’t change the past, although you can learn from your mistakes. Just don’t dwell on those mistakes and think about could have or should have. It’s over.

 

Thinking about or worrying about what will happen in the future is futile. You don’t know what will happen, so just have a plan to follow and “party on”. Stress will melt away when you live in the present.

 

Breathing will also reduce your level of stress and enable you to digest your food better as well. Whenever I feel a little stressed, I either take long deep breaths or follow the 4-7-8 breathing technique I had learned. You inhale deeply for a count of 4, then hold your breath for a count of 7, and then slowly with control, breathe out to a count of 8. When I find I have a little difficulty falling asleep, I do this several times and I’m able to relax sufficiently to drift into a deep sleep.

 

Getting in touch with nature is also a great way to relieve stress. A walk in the woods, on a golf course, sitting in your backyard or at a park can slowly melt away your stress. Just try to remain present, and aware of your surroundings, and let “nature take its course”. And please, turn off your cell phones, laptops and maybe take off your shoes and get grounded. Become aware of the peacefulness of your surroundings that you usually ignore.

 

The second most common cause of poor health are toxic chemicals. When I was first diagnosed with cancer, after the initial shock of the words leaving my doctor’s mouth, I concentrated on how to get better. After my surgery and learning that I was now cancer free, my next task was radically changing my diet. Of course I didn’t know what really caused my colon cancer, but I knew I had to rid my body of those toxic chemicals I had been ingesting for 70+ years in order to not only regain my health, but prevent the recurrence if I could.
